Bobby earned one of the biggest wins of his racing career Saturday night, capturing the 32nd annual Dream at Eldora (OH) Speedway and claiming the $100,000 top prize.
Starting 13th in the 100-lap crown jewel event, Bobby methodically worked his way through the field on the famed half-mile oval.
His march toward the front began early. With 80 laps remaining, Bobby cracked the top 10 and continued moving forward at a rapid pace. He advanced to ninth with 77 laps to go, eighth three laps later, and seventh on the following circuit.
The momentum continued to build.
Bobby slid into sixth entering turn three on lap 29 before grabbing fifth with a slide job in turn one four laps later. By lap 40, he had climbed to fourth and was quickly tracking down the leaders.
Just as Bobby appeared poised to take over third, the race’s first caution waved with 58 laps remaining, forcing him to settle back into fourth for the restart.
It didn’t slow him down.
Lining up on the outside of the second row, Bobby charged into third entering turn one on the restart. Three laps later, he used a huge run off the high side of turn four to slide into second and begin chasing down the leader.
At the halfway point, Bobby trailed by 1.8 seconds.
That deficit quickly disappeared.
As the leader encountered lapped traffic, Bobby closed the gap in a hurry. With 42 laps remaining, he completed the race-winning pass entering turn one and never relinquished the top spot.
A pair of cautions with 38 and 35 laps remaining repeatedly reset the field, but Bobby remained firmly in command.
The second-place car stayed within striking distance of Bobby throughout the closing stages, keeping the pressure on until trouble struck with 21 laps remaining. A blown tire sent the runner-up into the wall, collecting the third-place car and bringing out a caution.
From there, Bobby executed flawlessly over the remaining laps and crossed the finish line one second ahead of the field to secure his first career Dream victory.
“This feels awesome. Finally got the Dream,” Bobby said in Victory Lane. “We’ve been coming here for a long time, and we’ve been so good at the Dirt Track World Championship and the World 100, and never really been good at the Dream until the last couple of years.”
“To even think to be in this moment on this stage, it is hard to let it sink in because it is kind of unbelievable. It truly is a dream.”
The victory marked Bobby’s first Dream triumph at Eldora Speedway and added another crown jewel victory to an already impressive résumé. After years of chasing one of Dirt Late Model racing’s most prestigious prizes, Bobby finally checked the Dream off the list.
