Bobby stormed from the 12th starting position Tuesday night to capture the $15,000 Half Mile Hustle at Adams County (IA) Speedway, adding another Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory to his outstanding 2026 campaign.
A caution on the second lap found Bobby already up to ninth, but he briefly slipped back to 10th before beginning a steady march through the field. By lap five, he had climbed back to ninth and advanced to eighth just two circuits later.
The charge continued.
With 29 laps remaining, Bobby moved into seventh before making an impressive bottom-side pass entering turn one one lap later to vault into fifth.
Another strong move underneath a competitor entering turn one moved Bobby into fourth with 25 laps to go, but a caution before the lap could be completed sent him back to fifth for the restart.
It proved to be only a temporary setback.
At the completion of lap 16, Bobby had worked his way back to fourth before throwing a slider entering turn one for third. The move briefly paid off, but he climbed too high exiting the corner and dropped off the top ledge of the racing surface, surrendering the positions and falling back to fifth.
Undeterred, Bobby regrouped and returned to work.
With 20 laps remaining, he reclaimed fourth at the flagstand before pulling off one of the race’s boldest moves the following lap. Carrying tremendous momentum off the top, Bobby dove to the middle and made it three-wide at the flagstand before sliding into third entering turn one. Although he couldn’t quite make the pass stick and settled back into fourth, the aggressive charge showed he had one of the fastest cars on the track.
As the laps wound down, Bobby’s momentum only grew stronger.
With 13 laps remaining, he ripped the cushion through turns three and four to reclaim third before using the top side to perfection one lap later to move into second.
By lap 29, Bobby had closed rapidly on the race leader, whose car had begun trailing smoke.
Three laps later, Bobby made his first bid for the lead with a slide job entering turn three. The leader crossed back underneath to regain the position at the flagstand, setting up one final battle for the victory.
With five laps remaining, Bobby made the winning move.
Using a powerful run around the outside of the frontstretch, he drove around the leader entering turn one and completed the pass for good. A caution with three laps remaining erased his advantage and set up a single-file restart, but Bobby executed it flawlessly and drove away to claim the victory by 1.1 seconds.
“When I got to second was when I saw he started smoking,” Bobby said. “That was the first time I finally got clean air from me to him. It was oil and not tire smoke because it was getting on my shield. It was actually creating kind of a slip patch when I followed him off the corner, and I would lose him. We could have maybe raced it out if he didn’t have the issues, but we’ll never know. What an awesome car.”
The closing laps presented another challenge as mud quickly accumulated on Bobby’s helmet shield.
“I was wiping the shield every single straightaway,” he said. “I ran out of tear-offs probably 10 laps into the race with all that mud on the bottom.”
Bobby also praised the exciting style of racing the speedway produced.
“It was an awesome race. It was a lot of fun,” he said. “For a big track, it raced kind of like a small track. We were beating and banging on each other and throwing sliders.”
The impressive drive from 12th to Victory Lane added another memorable comeback victory to Bobby’s season and showcased the speed of the No. 32 team on yet another challenging race track.
