Bobby got his redemption in a big way Saturday night at Talladega (AL) Short Track, capturing the $50,000 prize in the World of Outlaws Series’ Alabama Gang 100. After heartbreak in 2023, when a broken wheel took him out while leading, Bobby left no doubt this time around.
Starting third in the 100-lap feature, Bobby wasted little time working his way to the front, taking the lead on lap 14. From there, he was flawless, leading the rest of the way to secure his 34th career World of Outlaws victory — moving him to eighth on the all-time win list.
With the track locking down early and a narrow, bottom-groove racing surface making passing difficult, Bobby’s ability to manage lapped traffic and maintain his pace was key. Despite the challenging conditions, the “Smooth Operator” never faltered under pressure, holding strong until the checkered flag waved.
“I thought the top (groove) would have come in a little bit, but once it just gets a little crumby up there, it is what it is,” Bobby said. “So getting that good starting position and getting to the lead early, that’s what I really wanted to do — and then just run my race and hang on after that. The only worry was if that middle (groove) did get cleaned up for a second and allowed someone to roll right around the outside. … So I was a little worried, but we got ’er done.”
