Bobby banked $75,000 on Saturday night with his second consecutive (third overall) victory in the North/South 100 at Florence (KY) Speedway. He jumped out to the lead at the start of the 100-lap Lucas Oil Series race from the outside of the front row and led the first 41 laps. However, Bobby was unsure if he would be able to get back to the top spot.
“I was very worried there,” Bobby said. “The track was loose in some spots where I’m normally really good, where I can get my launches off the corner. I knew it wasn’t going to be there at the end. With 50 laps to go, I was sitting in second, thinking, ‘Man, we’re only halfway through this race, and I feel like I’m already burning the tires off.’ The track was abrasive and slick—very, very slick—and it was super hard around the top.”
Despite these challenges, Bobby was able to regain the lead on lap 67 and held off a late challenge by Moran to earn his third crown jewel win in as many weeks, after capturing the USA Nationals and Prairie Dirt Classic.
“I figured it’d be me and Devin (Moran) possibly battling it out there at the end. Once I got the lead and saw Devin in second, I thought, ‘Man, I just have to stay ahead of him and do what I gotta do,’ ” Bobby said. “It was a tough race. It’s not fun for me to run the bottom like that towards the end of the race. I’m way more comfortable running the top, so I’m cramped up right now. The amount of focus it takes to run the bottom, in my opinion, is harder than running the top. I don’t even really know what to think right now. It definitely hasn’t sunk in. It’s going to take tonight for this to sink in. You just ride this wave as long as you can because it’s been awesome lately.”
