Bobby started on the pole of the Tar Heel 53 Thursday night at Tri-County (NC) Racetrack but was unable to get the lead at the start which proved costly as he had to settle for second in the Flo Night in America Series race. He fell back to third after the initial start but was able to get back to the runner-up position on lap 11. He stayed close to the leader throughout the rest of the 53-lap feature as he tried different lines on the track but didn’t quite have enough to make the winning pass as the top side proved to be too strong. “At the start of the race the bottom was a little slimy and I just couldn’t take off (from the pole) and that’s what got me back to third on the start,” Bobby said. “Luckily J.D. (Davenport) made that one bobble over there and I got around him and from then on it was just holding him off on every restart. O’Neal was pretty good up there (around the top).” Bobby holds a nine-point advantage in the series standings with two races remaining.
