Bobby led 74 laps in the 33rd Annual Prairie Dirt Classic World of Outlaws Series race Saturday night at Fairbury (IL) Speedway but was denied PDC glory again in his tenth start. He started outside of the front row in the 100-lap race and quickly established himself as the one to beat. Taking the lead on lap five, Bobby rode the bottom groove to stay in front as the cautions played into his favor early as he was able to stay out of the heavy lapped traffic. After each restart, he would pull away to a comfortable margin for the first half of the race. Soon after, Bobby would encounter the back of the field enabling his closest pursuers to close the gap. On lap 72, he lost the lead but would regain it again on lap 81 when the leader slowed. Bobby was unable to hold the top spot, however, as Thornton got by him on lap 88, and he had to settle for another runner-up finish. With his second-place run, Bobby pocketed $57,000 with lap money. “We’re happy with it,” Bobby said. “We couldn’t get through the corners like [Thornton] did. I wasn’t going to cowboy up and do that with points on the line. I’m leading these points, so I have to focus on that.” Bobby extended his series points lead to 68.
