Oh So Close (Again) With Runner-Up Finish at Prairie Dirt Classic

fairbury jul31Bobby started on the pole and led the first 30 laps Saturday night in the annual Prairie Dirt Classic at Fairbury (IL) Speedway, and it looked like maybe this was the year that he finally joins his dad as winners of this prestigious event. But he lost the lead after an exciting slide-job battle with Kyle Larson and never was able to regain it. He sure made it exciting at the end of the 100 lapper, though. Charging on the outside, Bobby was within two-tenths of a second with eight laps to go, but Larson changed his preferred middle groove to the top and took away any momentum that Bobby was able to muster. He had to settle for a runner-up finish and a $15,000 payday. "I think if he would've stayed on the bottom there for one more lap, it would've gotten really interesting," Bobby said. "All in all, this is a win for us. I've kind of been struggling here; I'll take second any day. I made more money than all of these fans booing. Thanks for coming and supporting us."
