$20,000 Pittsburgher 100 Winner!

pittsburgh oct7Another big race, another incredible rally. After pitting on lap 44 of the 100-lap Pittsburgher 100 Sunday afternoon at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, Bobby charged through the field to the lead with 10 laps remaining and drove away for his second $20,000 victory in the last two weeks. He started 10th in his first-ever appearance at the half-mile Pennsylvania track but fell back through the field and was around 20th when he decided to pull in for a new right-rear tire. Along with learning the new track in the first half of the race, and the new tire, the car came to life. He was inside the top 10 by lap 53 and reached the top five on lap 66. By lap 78, he was in third, nearly a straightaway behind the top two. In less than 10 laps he erased that deficit and was within striking distance to grab the win when a caution came out on lap 88. He put his car along the wall through turn four and followed the leader closely and then made his winning move when he dove underneath Owens down the straightaway and slid in front of him entering turn one to take over the lead on lap 91. “I am so out of breath right now,” Bobby said in victory lane. “It was really nerve-racking out there. I was just trying to keep it out of the guardrail. I am speechless right now. We were so close at I-80, the Dirt Million, and Knoxville, but to win another big race after Brownstown is great. I want to thank my family and crew.” -- Heath Lawson Photo
